Editor's Desk: Your All Time Favorite Christmas Movies

 In  Industry

It's Christmas Eve, and if you're like me at all you still have a few gifts you need to pick up, a few holiday phone calls to family and friends to make... and if you're REALLY like me, a couple of great Christmas movies to sit down and watch over the next couple of days.

Christmas has been the subject or context for many truly great films, and this time of the year I like to watch a whole bunch of them.

Scrooged

A Christmas Story

A Miracle on 34th Street

It's a Wonderful Life

A Christmas Carol (My personal favorite is the 1951 Alastair Sim version)

Die Hard (come on... that counts)

Gremlins

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

A Charlie Brow Christmas (TV movies count this time of year)

Christmas Vacation

The potential list is almost endless.  So I wanted to ask you, my fellow AMCers, what some of YOUR favorite all time Christmas movies are.  Do you have any that are part of a Christmas tradition for your  and your family?

    First and foremost, great list.

However, let me add in one personal favorite:

    One Magic Christmas.

It's not as well-known as it should be, but it's amazing. Harry Dean Stanton, Mary Steenburgen -- it's fantastic. The story is about a Christmas Angel (Stanton) Gideon who visits a family and helps teach a mom (Steenburgen) about how Christmas isn't such a bad thing. It's not as sappy as my description makes it sound -- in fact, it's quite a compelling little story.

For years and years as a little girl, I would watch the video tape we had off of The Disney Channel -- so much that the beginning of the tape became permanently messed up. I think I saw it in the theater (this was Christmas 1985 so I would have just turned 3), but I know the rest of my family did.

Great acting, especially by the kids -- and you can see a VERY young Sarah Polly in one of her first roles (small part) -- and a really good Christmas story.

Other favorites in my house (which is a tad Christmas obsessed) include "A Christmas Story" (being from Atlanta that's been a tradition for like 22 years on TBS or TNT), "It's a Wonderful Life," "Charlie Brown" and of course, "Christmas Vacation."

On Friday, my fiance and I are going to go see "Avatar" in 3D again -- and we'll try to drag the family with us. Traditionally my mom and I try to go to the movies together on Christmas day.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

When it comes to Christmas movies, I always go back to my childhood...Frosty, Rudolph, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, Charlie Brown, A Christmas Carol (the version with Mickey and Co.), and my all-time favorite: A Muppet Family Christmas

I'm the same as LiKelly in thinking that the movies from when I was a kid are the greatest. Nothing says the holidays like Mickey's Christmas Carol!

It's a Wonderful Life is my absolute favorite Christmas movie! A story of self-discovery,love,community,forgiveness and redemption. What more could one ask for in a movie?

One that is missed from the list is the movie with Nicholas Cage and Tea Leoni "Family Man". Loosely based on "It's a Wonderful Life".

    Check it out. Good flick.
