Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to Co-host the Oscars

For the 2010 Academy Awards, the big mantra seems to be "go big or go home." First the Academy announced that the Best Picture category would feature 10 nominees (up from five) and now it has announced that there will be two hosts for the ceremony: Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin!
The Oscars have featured multiple hosts before, but this is the first time more than one person will host the event since 1987 (where incidentally, Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan hosted the ceremony).
Steve Martin hosted the ceremony in 2001 and 2003 and Baldwin has been a presenter in the past. Both comedians will star together in the film "It's Complicated", which opens in AMC Theatres on December 25th. Last year, Martin also guest-starred on Baldwin's sitcom, "30 Rock", leading to some speculation that Tina Fey might join the writing team (please!).
Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic -- the two men that are producing the big show -- said in a statement:
"We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event."
We think this sounds like a pretty great idea. Hugh Jackman hosted the 2009 ceremony and raised ratings while also bringing some new fun to the biggest of all movie award shows. Combining the talents of Baldwin and Martin seems like a terrific way to build on that trend.
What do you think about the two newest Oscar hosts? Who is your favorite Oscar host of all time? Let us know!
