Video: Film Pundits Discuss Matthew Vaughn's Comic Movies Demise Comments

 In  Directors

Director Matthew Vaughn has helmed what I consider to be one of the top 5 ilms of the year with "Kick-Ass" and has also directed what I believe is the single most underrated film of the past 10 years in "Stardust".  His next project is taking on the X-Men franchise with "X-Men: First Class".

But despite getting ready to shoot a chapter in one of the most celebrated comic movie franchises of all time, Vaughn recently made comments predicting the "death" of the superhero genre.

Joining me to discuss these comments and what they mean (if anything) are filmmaker Brian Taylor who was just announced as the director of the upcoming "Ghost Rider 2" with his creative partner Mark Neveldine (The two have previously done films like the Jason Statham "Crank" series), Senior Editor of JoBlo.Com Mike Sampson, and Senior Writer for LatinoReview.Com George "El Guapo" Roush.

You can watch our conversation below:

So what do you think?  Is the comic book genre almost dead or does it simply have too much force behind it to die anytime soon?  Let us know your thoughts.

I don't think it's dead at all. We continue to see this genre pop up every year and each movie has a considerable following. Nobody can deny the popularity of each of the Batman or Spider Man movies or the more recent Iron Man 2. There's no doubt in my mind they're here to stay.

What? The comic book genre isn't anywhere near dead. As long as the comic book movies have excellent quality then people will come see them.

I personally don't think that the comic book genre is dead yet. As long as the adaptations of the comic books are good, and they find good actors to play the parts. Remember that the fan base for comic books is huge, and i'm sure those fans will always be willing to watch the adaptations of their favorite comic books no matter what.

I'm another believer that comic's making it to the big screen are dead. Every year Comic Con is held with breaking records of attendance, those same people plus many more pay to see comics turned action. Comics will never die in the media world.
