What 'Twilight' Could Have Been

 In  Writers, Industry

What if the film version of "Twilight" wasn't about a new girl falling in love with a strange outsider with mysterious tendencies, but about jocks and CIA plots? Sounds pretty crazy, right?

Well according to Film School Rejects, that's what almost happened. FSR talked to "Twilight" and "New Moon" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and she revealed that when the galleys (that is, the version of a book before final edits and before it hits book stores) for the book "Twilight" were originally optioned by Paramount, that studio had some very different ideas for what to do with the story.

She says:

"I know that the CIA was involved, and the character Bella was a track star or something like that. It's so contrary to the character Stephanie created."

It's often the case that book series, even very popular and intricate book series become changed and amalgamated almost beyond recognition. Fortunately for "Twilight" fans, Summit has remained pretty true to the original source and story.

Do you think that Paramount's plan for the "Twilight" film would have found success? Let us know!

It may have worked, but not as Twilight. Another movie altogether, sure. But otherwise no.

It might have worked, but I think the way the films are now proves that they are successful already - So why change a good thing!

Not at all. They wanted to change everything. It wouldn't have been anything like the book and in that case I don't think it would have been a very successful movie.

I am glad they stuck to the original book. FlyBoyZombie is right, there is no reason to add elements into the plot when the books were already successful. The movie could have easily turned into a flop if the fans couldn't connect.

Thanks Jen C! I think I will have to read the books at some point in order to really see the differences, but sometimes the movie can make a story less complicated and easier to follow. Lord of the Rings is a perfect example of that, but then again, L.O.T.R and the Twilight series are totally different.

Someone should make "Team Jacob" and "Team Edward" Twilight groups on here! I bet they would be the top 2 groups on the site in no time!
