We're only a couple of days away from the release of Disney's latest science fiction adventure film "John Carter." If you aren't familiar with the novel series that was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs then you're in luck. AMC Theatres Movie News Senior Editor John Campea runs down his own list of the top five reasons as to why movie-goers should flock out to theaters this Friday to see Andrew Stanton's latest directed movie.

The movie centers on John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), a former American Civil War Confederate Army captain who is mysteriously transported to Mars, which is known to its inhabitants as Barsoom. He discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.
