The popular movies based on the Dan Brown novels starring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, who runs around trying to solve a series of religious mysteries, has a third one, “The Lost Symbol,” in Hollywood limbo.

After “Angels and Demons” failed to do booming domestic box office business, The Lost Symbol seemed to be sputtering as far as a signed production start date. Now it appears as if a writer has been found. Danny Strong, who co-starred in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” will be writing. Dan Brown has been reported as also working on the screenplay. Ron Howard will not return to direct the third film in the series.
