It’s been 18 years since the world was treated to the misadventures of best friends Lloyd and Harry in the popular Farrelly brother’s comedy “Dumb and Dumber.”

But in a world where time between sequels is increasing in tandem with time between reboots decreasing it was not surprising when it was reported that a follow-up to the hit was in the works this past April.

Peter Farrelly told Coming Soon that he and his brother were actively developing “Dumb and Dumber 2” with both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels set to reprise their roles.

Now, Entertainment Tonight reports that Carrey has left the project saying that the actor “grew increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Brothers, who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project."

Carrey’s publicist provided the following quote from the actor:

"I would have thought Dumb and Dumber Two was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title."

Is “Dumb and Dumber 2” all but dead in the water without Carrey’s participation? Can there be a Harry without his Lloyd? A Dumb without his counterpart, Dumber?
