"The Town" scribe feels the need for speed as he picks up this new writing project.

Who knew that in a couple of decades there would still be the demand for a "Top Gun" sequel? It looks like Paramount Pictures is moving forward with "Top Gun 2," hiring Peter Craig ("The Town") to pen the script. Producing the film is Skydance Productions alongside Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

Currently there is no director set to take on the project. Since "Top Gun 2" is slowly beginning to happen, the real question now is whether or not Tom Cruise will return to reprise his iconic role. He's expressed interest in wanting to do a sequel, but now the pressure is on for Craig to write one stellar script.

Tom Cruise will be seen rocking it out on the big screen in "Rock of Ages," due out in AMC Theatres on June 15th.
