CROUCHING TIGER Sequel in the Works

It's been over a decade since the incredible and adorable Ang Lee, brought us his mystical masterpiece "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". The movie captivated audiences and critics alike, and earned an impressive 10 Oscar nominations. Winning 4 awards including Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography, Best Music and Best Art Direction, it was also nominated for Best Director and Best Picture.

Lee, who most recently won an Academy Award for Best Director for "Life of Pi", really created a special and unique film, and we're very pleased to hear that a sequel is finally on the way.

The title will aptly be named "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny" and production is said to kickoff March of next year. Lee will not be helming this one, and Woo-ping Yuen will be stepping behind the lens.

The film will star Donnie Yen and Silent Wolf and Michelle Yeoh will be reprising her memorable role as Yu Shu Lien. Yuen will be working off of John Fusco's screenplay, which is said to be based off the fifth book in Du Lu Wang's Crane-Iron Pentalogy series, "Iron Knight, Silver Vase".

The Weinstein Company and Yucaipa Films are producing and they are aiming for a 2015 release.

Wesley Snipes and Jackie Chan Confirmed for EXPENDABLES 3?

Sylvester Stallone, or Sly as warmly known to his fans, appears to be full speed ahead on his upcoming "Expendables 3". The movies reunites classic, amazing action stars and make lots of money, why wouldn't he be eager?

Stallone has been steadily revealing updates to the cast via Twitter. Mickey Rourke is coming back for the third installment as Sly confirmed with, "Mighty Mickey is back…". We heard news of Jackie Chan's return several months back, and now it appears to be confirmed, as Sly has tweeted, "What's the plan? Ask Jackie Chan…".

We wondered who else would hop on the hot bandwagon and now it appears that Wesley Snipes could be a new addition. Now that Snipes is out of prison, an "Expendables" film seems like a solid way to get him back into the biz. Sly tweeted, "Talked to Wesley today….He can not WAIT to fight to the top again !!!!!! Over….".

Casting updates were not the only thing he revealed via the social media tool. He also discussed his plan to beat other respected action movies that have recently released, specially "The Raid". Sly tweeted, "Thinking about Raiding, THE RAID….think about it…", and then followed that tweet by adding, "We believe we can do better than the RAID, which was an excellent film… Raising the bar…".

Reese Witherspoon Joins Paul Thomas Anderson's INHERENT VICE

Paul Thomas Anderson possesses many talents, one large one being the type of quality actors that are attracted to his unique and beautifully shot projects. Reese Witherspoon is the latest addition to his "Inherent Vice", which already boasts a spectacular ensemble including Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson and Martin Short.

Phoenix and Anderson recently worked together on the controversial "The Master", and the lovely Witherspoon won an Academy Award for portraying June Carter and partnering with Phoenix on the Johnny Cash film "Walk the Line". This new film is shaping up rather nicely indeed.

Based on the popular spy novel by Thomas Pynchon, the synopsis of the book reads as follows:

It's been a while since Doc Sportello has seen his ex- girlfriend. Suddenly she shows up with a story about a plot to kidnap a billionaire land developer whom she just happens to be in love with. It's the tail end of the psychedelic sixties in L.A., and Doc knows that "love" is another of those words going around at the moment, like "trip" or "groovy," except that this one usually leads to trouble.

First Full RIDDICK Trailer

The first full trailer has been released for "Riddick", the return of Vin Diesel in the badass title character. Writer/Director David Twohy seems to be reuniting fans of the franchise by heading back into the Pitch Black, which seems like a good move given the disappointment from many for the sequel. Going back to the roots and the original success, is generally a good strategy.

Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, and Nolan Gerard Funk will be sharing the screen with Diesel in the third installment.

Synopsis:

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

Release Date Set for ANGRY BIRDS Movie

We've heard about a movie being adapted from the popular mobile game "Angry Birds" for some time now. The game was a colossal success, still remaining the most popular paid app to date, so it was only a matter of time until a studio tried to capitalize on that. Now, there's been movement and it looks like the film adaptation is officially on the way.

Sony Pictures has acquired the worldwide distribution rights toe the film and now a release date of July 1, 2016 has been set. David Maisel ("Iron Man") and John Cohen ("Despicable Me") are producing the project.

The project marks the first film development for the game developer, Rovio Entertainment. I'm sure they are beyond thrilled at the prospect, since the franchising of the game has spread like wildfire, from stuffed animals to bed sheets.

Christoph Waltz Joins CANDY STORE

The always incredible Christoph Waltz is the latest edition to Stephen Gaghan's action thriller "Candy Store". Robert De Niro is already locked in, as well as Jason Clarke and Omar Sy.

In addition to helming, Gaghan is producing alongside Allison Shearmur, working from a script that he co-wrote with Shannon Burke.

Set in the criminal underworld of Brooklyn, the story revolves around a former operative (Clarke), who learns that the organization he fought is now living within a close proximity to him. He then partners with a local cop lacking credibility (De Niro) to investigate, and is set up against an international sex-trader (Sy) and a Cold War mafia member posing as an American suburbanite (Waltz). There's also a role calling for a beautiful girl, planning to detonate a nuclear bomb in Manhattan. The role has not been cast yet.

Waltz is always a fantastic addition to every film he joins, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one shakes out. We'll keep you posted as the story develops.

Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Join Rob Marshall's INTO THE WOODS

The classic Steven Sondheim musical "Into The Woods" puts us intimately into the hearts and backstories of some of our most beloved fairytales. Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and countless others, take center stage, to elaborate on the stories we only think we know. Twisted and darker truths are revealed, as told through clever and original music.

The wonderful musical is getting a new adaptation, under the command of Rob Marshall. Johnny Depp, who worked with Marshall at the helm of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", has joined the cast as the big bad wolf. Multiple Academy Award winning icon, Meryl Streep, is also signed on to play the evil witch. The witch seamlessly ties all the stories together and is a consistent in almost every scene.

Now, it looks like two other hot actors in Hollywood may also be joining the twisted fairytale film adaptation. Chris Pine from "Star Trek" fame, as well as Jake Gyllenhaal, are in talks to join the cast. The roles the gents would be up for are Cinderella and Rapunzel's princes, which certainly both demand a healthy, singing voice.

Marshall lead a read through of James Lapine's adapted screenplay and a bunch of big names in both theater as well as the big-screen participated. Such names and roles they read for include Nina Arianda as The Baker's Wife, Christine Baranski as the Stepmother, Tammy Blanchard as Florinda, Victoria Clark as Cinderella's Mother/Giant, James Corden as the Baker, David Garrison as the Narrator, Ivan Hernandez as the Wolf, Megan Hilty as Lucinda, Cheyenne Jackson as Rapunzel's Prince, Allison Janney as Jack's Mother, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Michael McGrath as the Steward/Baker's Father, Donna Murphy as the Witch, Laura Osnes as Rapunzel, Taylor Trensch as Jack, Casey Whyland as Little Red Riding Hood, and Patrick Wilson as Cinderella's Prince.

We aren't sure how many of these names will actually be in the film version, but it's an impressive list nonetheless.

Marshall is no stranger to leading successful film musicals, as he proved with his multi-academy award winning "Chicago", starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger.

Scarlett Johansson Reunites with Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau on CHEF

Jon Favreau is certainly bringing out the big guns to pull in some favors for his upcoming indie comedy "Chef". First, news hit that his "Iron Man" star, Robert Downey Jr., has joined the cast in an unspecified role. Now, another reunion is occurring, in the form of the beautiful Scarlett Johansson joining the ensemble.

The three worked together on "Iron Man 2", and Downey Jr. and Johansson will continue to work together on "Avengers 2", and hopefully "Avengers 3", if it all gets locked as hoped. Johansson will play Favreau's love interest Molly in the film.

On adding Johannson to the cast, Favreau said, "Scarlett is a tremendous talent and I'm honored to be collaborating with her again. I'm so fortunate to be working with such a fine ensemble."

Favreau is directing and starring in the film, from his own screenplay, and production is said to kickoff in Los Angeles on July 8. The film centers around a man who gets fired from his job at fancy restaurant, and opens a food truck in an effort to reignite the passion in his career and his family.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS Reboot on Hold

Just when we thought a reboot of the popular game-turned-movie, "Dungeons and Dragons", was finally going to get off the ground, a big wrench has been thrown in the project. Toy company Hasbro Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Sweetpea Entertainment, claiming that they do not own the rights to make a new film based on the popular brand.

The lawsuit aims to stop the production from moving forward completely. Perhaps because Hasbro just wants a piece of the action? While the project was going to be released under the Warner Bros. brand, WB is not currently listed as the defendant. The grounds in which Hasbro is fighting on state that the rights have reverted back to the toy company since Sweetpea acquired them in 1994, in order to make the 2000 live-action feature.

The script for the reboot was based off the original David Johnson ("Wrath of the Titans") script that they were re-working. That script was centered around another game created by Gygax called "Chainmail".

Drew Pearce to Pen MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5

Now that there is a new mission, that Tom Cruise has chosen to accept, it's been a announced that a screenwriter has been hired. Drew Pearce, co-writer with Shane Black on the very successful "Iron Man 3", is set to pen "Mission: Impossible 5".

This project is seemingly shaping up quickly and rather nicely. Cruise is set to produce as well as star in the picture. His "Jack Reacher" director, Christopher McQuarrie, is in talks to helm. They two worked well on that film together and it definitely makes sense to partner on this one, which shares a similar tone and title character.

We were not surprised that a 5th installment would be coming, since "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" grossed nearly $700 million worldwide. Respectable numbers indeed. I'm a big fan of spy-dramas and the franchise, and all the elements are forming a solid whole thus far.

Will Smith in Talks to Produce and Star in THE WILD BUNCH Remake

In the theme of constantly remaking classics, Will Smith is going to give the western genre another try. I love me some Will Smith but let's just hope it's not another "Wild, Wild West" on our hands.

It's being reported that Smith is aiming to produce and star in the remake of the classic "The Wild Bunch". The original 1969 version was directed by Sam Peckinpah and starred William Holden, Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan.

The story centers around a group of aging outlaws that agree to do one final large score, in order to hold onto the old school American West, that is becoming a scarcity. The project currently has no director locked but Brian Helgeland was once attached, then Tony Scott before his traffic death, and most recently David Ayer.

According to sources, the new direction will be as follows:

"A modern remake involving cartels south of the border, the "Wild Bunch" reboot is expected to follow a disgraced D.E.A. agent who assembles a team to go after a Mexican drug lord and his fortune."

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Talks to Play The Exterminator in TOXIC AVENGER Reboot

The governator made his return to the big-screen in a leading role with this year's "The Last Stand". While the film opened smaller than what was hoped, it got Arnold Schwarzenegger very much back on Hollywood's radar, after his small but memorable cameo in "The Expendables".

It is now being reported that he is in talks to star in a reboot of the 1980s film "The Toxic Avenger". He will portray a character named The Exterminator, not to be confused with The Terminator, the role that solidified him as an icon to all of us. The Exterminator is a former black ops agent who trains the title character of Melvin Ferd III, to become a a hero once he falls into a batch of toxic waste giving him superpowers.

While I'm not as familiar with the material, I do know Schwarzenegger's strengths fall very much on his charming comedic timing and ability to be a solid action star. This role feels like the perfect fit to reunite us with the Schwarzenegger we all know and love.

New HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Poster Shows Katniss on Top of a Mountain

A new poster has been released for the upcoming sequel based on the popular books, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". This poster highlights Katniss Everdeen, played by the wonderful and now Academy Award winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence. In the poster, Katniss is standing on top of a mountain alone, with her signature bow and arrow in her hand. The poster looks almost muted and in pastels, which really works in this instance.

Gary Ross helmed the first film, and the sequel has Francis Lawrence behind the lens. The film will also reunite us with Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland. The incredible Philip Seymour Hoffman is joining the cast, as well as Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin and Amanda Plummer.

Synopsis:

"THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor’s Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever."
