While SOUL, TURNING RED, and LUCA weren't originally theatrical releases, having made their debuts via streaming, the three Pixar films are certainly well worth seeing on the big screen. In the coming months, you'll have the opportunity to do just that.

In anticipation of INSIDE OUT 2 – an upcoming sequel to 2015’s heartwarming, Academy AwardⓇ-winning Pixar classic – AMC Theatres is going to show these three recent Pixar favorites in locations across the country and in various options, including standard and 3D. They will be running ahead of the new film’s release on June 14, 2024, at different times of the year, but tickets for each feature will be available for purchase on January 2. Find more information about when you and the whole family can experience SOUL, TURNING RED, and LUCA – as well as a reminder of what each film is about – below.

Soul

Many of the best Pixar movies offer thought-provoking commentary on various aspects of life. Eventually, the animation studio would go a step beyond with a beautiful meditation on the afterlife with 2017’s COCO. Three years later, Pixar veteran Pete Docter, his co-director Kemp Powers, and their co-writer Mike Jones took things a step further by imagining who we are, not just after our lives have passed, but before they begin with 2020’s SOUL.

Winner of two OscarsⓇ (including Best Animated Feature and for Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste’s original score), the PG-rated fantasy stars Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx as the voice of Joe Gardner – a talented Jazz musician who has just landed the gig of his dreams when an accident sends him to a strange place beyond the land of the living. Desperate to return to Earth, Joe finds himself partnered with an unborn soul named 22 (Tina Fey), to whom he teaches everything there is to know about being human, while learning valuable lessons of his own in the process. Accompanied by a showing of the SparkShort’s six-minute feature, BURROW, SOUL starts playing at AMC Theatres on January 12, 2024.

Turning Red

A Pixar film that actually serves as a great pairing with INSIDE OUT, and very likely could with the sequel, is TURNING RED. While the former 2015 film focuses on the struggles of adolescence from the point of view of a young girl named Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), the plot of the latter 2022 movie is rooted in a later stage of womanhood, but with an intriguing symbolic and transformative twist.

Inspired by the life experiences of co-writer and director Domee Shi – who previously won an Oscar for her 2018 short film, BAO – this coming-of-age fantasy comedy follows 13-year-old Meilin (Rosalie Chiang), who is already dealing with her strained relationship with her Chinese immigrant parents (voiced by Sandra Oh and Orion Lee) when she begins to encounter an additional, and very unusual, problem. As part of a curse passed down to all the female descendants of her family, any time she becomes overly excited, she suddenly turns into a giant red panda, which cuts deeply into her social life. The fun, tender-hearted TURNING RED comes to AMC Theatres, along with the Oscar-nominated KITBULL from SparkShort, on February 9, 2024.

Luca

TURNING RED is not the only transformative Pixar adventure coming to AMC Theatres in 2024. Yet another acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated coming-of-age fantasy tale that explores complex family dynamics and themes of self-discovery is LUCA from 2021. The feature-length directorial debut of Italian-born veteran animator Enrico Casarosa takes place in an idyllic town by the Italian Riviera, which the young, titular protagonist (voiced by Jacob Tremblay) dreams of experiencing for himself, if not for his protective parents (Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan) forbidding him from leaving their home on account of them being sea monsters. However, when Luca meets a fellow aquatic creature like himself named Alberto (Jack Dylan Grazer), he shows him how to disguise himself as a human being and takes him on a life-changing tour of the world he has longed to see his whole life. The classic Pixar short film FOR THE BIRDS – which played before MONSTERS INC in theatres in 2001 – hits the big screen at AMC Theatres with LUCA on March 22, 2024.

Pixar fans are not going to want to miss these events that will serve as an exciting way to celebrate recent years of great Pixar films before their latest, INSIDE OUT 2, arrives this summer. Check out SOUL, TURNING RED, and LUCA on the big screen when they arrive at an AMC Theatres location near you!
