The war is back on at your local AMC. Not between frustrated countries — this one’s being waged between angry birds and the green pigs who get under their ruffled feathers.
In theatres now, THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 rekindles the aggressive battle between birds and pigs for a colorful comedy that the whole family can enjoy. Parents likely are lining up a trip to AMC before school officially is back in session, so we wanted to help you get up to speed with a refresher course on who is who in the animated nest.
The realm of ANGRY BIRDS — which is based on the popular mobile game — can be divided into two camps. And they are littered with hilarious comedians lending their pipes to different on-screen animals. We decided to break them up into their “armies” so you don’t have to guess whose voice is making what joke in the film. This is a mix of the original voice cast and some newcomers, so make note before you head out to see THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2.
The Birds
The two main birds in THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 once again are voiced by Jason Sudeikis (Red) and Josh Gad (Chuck), which is unusual because Gad also voices the snowman Olaf in Disney’s FROZEN franchise, so we instantly need to disconnect there! A bomb-bird named, well, Bomb is back in the comedy, and he's again voiced by Danny McBride.
Rachel Bloom of the TV show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is a new voice that audience members will hear in the sequel. She plays the brainy Silver, an engineer and math wizard who likely can help the birds construct better methods for stopping the bad guy.
Only in this case, it’s a bad girl. “Saturday Night Live” comedian Leslie Jones voices Zeta (above), a mysterious purple bird who is using frozen tech to get back at both the birds and the pigs in one big diabolical scheme.
The Pigs
The pigs are still reeling from their defeat at the hands of the Angry Birds in the first movie. But their leader, Leonard, is back in the saddle, voiced by “Barry” star Bill Hader.
The pig camp has also expanded for the sequel, as “This Is Us” standout Sterling K. Brown voices the new pig Garry, while CRAZY RICH ASIANS scene-stealer Awkwafina plays Courtney.
These are not the only voices that you will recognize in the sequel. “Game of Thrones” master Peter Dinklage once again voices Mighty Eagle. Meanwhile, THE KITCHEN co-star Tiffany Haddish voices Debbie, and Pete Davidson ("Saturday Night Live") voices Jerry.
