New Details Revealed for 'Aquaman'

Justice League is no doubt the most ambitious DC project to date. With characters like Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash uniting to save the world from Stepphenwolf, DC fans are finally getting to see the superheroes they grew up with finally kick butt on the big screen. But Justice League isn't the only DC movie in the horizon, with James Wan's highly anticipated Aquaman set to release in 2018. Although much about the film has been kept under wraps, star Jason Momoa has finally talked about the tone of the film and how it is similar to a very famous film franchise.
The King Of Atlantis
During a press junket for Justice League, Momoa spoke with Comicbook.com about the plot of Aquaman:
You're going to see this ocean world, which we just pollute, and how do these people feel underwater with what the land does to the ocean. And this war that is going to come between the two, and I'm the only one that can link the two. He has to do it. He doesn't want to do it. Surpassing Justice League, this moment in time is his call to become king. The only thing that can save Atlantis is me fighting my own brother. There's a big battle, and there's an epic [fight].
Momoa's comments about becoming the king and fighting his brother seemingly indicate that the film will be a loose adaptation of Geoff Johns' Throne of Atlantis. Since Throne of Atlantis is the continuation of the Justice League: Origins storyline in the comics, this makes sense. After all, many fans have claimed that Justice League: Origin will serve as the inspiration for the upcoming Justice League film, so all this adds up quite nicely.
The Past & Present Of Arthur Curry
According to the actor, the film will dabble a lot with flashbacks showing us Arthur in different stages of his life. Fans may remember that both Man of Steel and Wonder Woman showed younger versions of their protagonists and Aquaman is going to continue that trend. Momoa also talked about how the film is like Star Wars in the sense that it's this big movie with a world we've never seen the like of before.
It's also a big road movie, because we travel all over the world. It's got that Star Wars quality of gigantic ships and guys riding sharks. It's going to be this whole world you've never seen before. You're going to see him start as this guy who probably rides bikes, works on cars. You get to see him this one way as kind of a dirty, dark, drunkard, and then turn into this regal king.
It sounds like Arthur Curry will have quite a journey before he becomes the hero we know and love. The James Wan-directed film will be released December 2018, and with Nicole Kidman, William Defoe, Patrick Stewart and Amber Heard all joining Momoa on the superhero adventure movie, Aquaman is bound to be something to behold.
