Our Most Anticipated Movies in 2022

January 10th, 2022Our Most Anticipated Movies in 2022

With 2022 in full swing, we wanted to share our most anticipated movies for the year. 2022 could be described as the year of the comic book movies, or the year of Tom Cruise. If you are a fan of drama, comedy or animated family-friendly films, don't worry there are some great options also.

Comic book fans will be immersed in the action and stories on the big screen starting with the new installment of the Caped Crusader, THE BATMAN starring Robert Pattinson. Warner Brothers is scheduled to release three more DC movies this year with the introduction of Dwayne Johnson as BLACK ADAM and return of Justice League heroes Arthur Curry in AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM and Barry Allen in THE FLASH. Not to be outdone, Marvel has a full slate also starting with DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, THOR LOVE AND THUNDER and wrapping up the year with the highly anticipated BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER.

As for Tom Cruise, fans are excited to see that action hero return to the big screen in two movies in 2022. During the summer we will see Cruise return as our favorite Navy fighter pilot in TOP GUN MAVERICK and in during the holidays he will be back as the iconic Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 7. If you crave action beyond Tom Cruise, don't worry. UNCHARTED, JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION and AVATAR 2 will be huge hits this year that must be seen on the largest screens at your favorite AMC.

If going to the movies is a family event and you love animated movies, you are going to be treated to some original new movies in addition to the return of some of your favorite characters. WB is scheduled to release DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS in May, Pixar is releasing LIGHTYEAR in June, while sequels are scheduled this year for a couple of vibrant characters, SONIC 2 and MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU.

Now that we have shared some of the biggest films to fill the screen in 2022 let’s see what movies our staff has selected as their most anticipated movies of 2022. The movies below are listed in order of release dates.

We have three words for you: Action. Adventure. Comedy. It doesn't hurt to also mention that THE LOST CITY stars an incredible ensemble cast leading with the comedic, power-duo of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum with Brad Pitt and Daniel Radcliffe in this hilarious, comedy set deep in the jungle.

The Lost City opens March 25th

Our staff is really excited to see where director Sam Raimi takes one of our favorite Avengers in the Doctor Strange sequel. Also, who isn’t excited to see the evolution of the MULTIVERSE! After the success of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, Marvel and Raimi have the opportunity to dive deep into the mystic arts, introduce new characters into the MCU and unite Stephen Strange with Wanda Maximoff to face an evil Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens May 6th

Since 1993, moviegoers have been immersed in a world where dinosaurs roam the world and this June, we will get to experience the next installment in the JURASSIC PARK franchise. JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION will unite the characters Owen Grady and Claire Dearing with the original cast members Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Dominion. We are prepared for an action-adventure that will leave us on the edge of our seat, but also hoping that they push the fear-factor in this new installment.

Jurassic World: Dominion opens June 10th

To infinity and beyond. The iconic and timless catchphrase of favorite toy astronaut, Buzz Lightyear. Generations of Pixar fans have laughed, cried and cheered for Buzz through four TOY STORY movies, but this is an origin story of the fictional astronaut who inspired the toys. Voiced by Chris Evans, we are so excited to see him in his adventures on the big screen. Hint, pay close attention and listen for a character voiced by legend John Ratzenberger, who will appear in his 26th consecutive Pixar film.

Lightyear opens June 17th

The last time we saw Thor, he was setting out on an adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy, so will THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER see him depart from the crew to fight Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale)? We are excited to see the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, will her and Thor find inner galactic love again or is it not in the cards? Nothing can be assumed or expected except a good laugh with writer and director Taika Waititi returning for the sequel.

THOR LOVE AND THUNDER opens July 8th

Our staff thinks writer and director Jordan Peele is amazing. From GET OUT to US, Peele combines horror with real-world issues in a way that leaves you asking questions with your friends after seeing the movie. His third film, NOPE reunites Peele with Daniel Kaluuya and will mark the first time he will be working with Steven Yeun from MINARI and Keke Palmer from HUSTLERS. Very little has been shared about the film, but if the poster provides any clues you can expect a very dark and mysterious thriller.

NOPE opens July 22nd

If the epic success of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME has you wanting more Spidey, you are in luck. Your friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man, Miles Morales returns to the big screen this Fall. Writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller reunite Spider-Man with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered. The highest rated Spider-Man movie of all time on Rotten Tomatoes is the 2018 SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, which also won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - Part One opens October 7th

Our staff loved BLACK PANTHER and the positive impact it created in the African American community. We are anxiously waiting for the first trailer for BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER to see how MARVEL plans to develop the character and story after the unexpected passing of the great Chadwick Boseman, who embodied the soul and spirit of the superhero.

BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER opens November 11th

In 2009, we landed on the planet, Pandora and were introduced to the world of the Na'vi. Even though it’s been awhile since we’ve visited Pandora, we are excited to see the visual achievements that director James Cameron has createed and developed to immerse us back into the majestic world. Cameron is one of our favorite directors, having created two of the best sequels of all-time, ALIENS and TERMINATOR 2. In Jim we trust with AVATAR 2!

AVATAR 2 opens December 16th
