Terminator: Dark Fate Trailer Reaction

May 31st, 2019Terminator: Dark Fate Trailer Reaction

When you think of the Terminator, you think of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Understandable. The action icon brought the killing machine to life in 1984, and the Terminator arguably is Schwarzenegger’s most famous role. But the next person you probably think of is Linda Hamilton, who stared down the Terminator not once, but twice and is ready to do it again in November’s TERMINATOR: DARK FATE.

James Cameron will executive produce the latest TERMINATOR sequel, which will be directed by DEADPOOL helmer Tim Miller. Paramount released the first full trailer for the sci-fi sequel, which you can watch below:

The highlight has to be the return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, a warrior mother from a contemporary age who once was hunted by Schwarzenegger’s Terminator because she was destined to give birth to the resistance leader, John Connor.

Hamilton reprises her role in TERMINATOR: DARK FATE, but the trailer suggests that she will be assisting in the protection of a new woman, Dani Ramos, played by Natalia Reyes. There’s a line of dialogue in the trailer that suggests Ramos will also play an important role in the future war between mankind and the cyborgs. But the trailer is heavy on action and light on plot, for the time being.

Because this is a TERMINATOR movie, we also meet two new Terminators. Gabriel Luna plays what appears to be the main villain, a liquid-metal Terminator who seems to be hunting Dani Ramos down. It’s reminiscent of the way that Robert Patrick hunted Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong down in the seminal T2: JUDGMENT DAY.

Standing in Luna’s way — in addition to a heavily armed Linda Hamilton — will be a new machine played by BLADE RUNNER 2049 star Mackenzie Davis. Usually these machines are sent back from the future by someone, though we have yet to learn who sends her character back or why.

Naturally, there is a sighting of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the new trailer for TERMINATOR: DARK FATE. He looks like this:

Arnold

And it’s rumored that Schwarzenegger, in this movie, will be playing the human on which his original T-800 eventually will be modeled. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

The action in the new TERMINATOR: DARK FATE trailer is intense and relentless, which fits the mold of what audiences have come to expect from this series. The producing team behind it states that it will be a direct sequel to T2, ignoring the story that developed in the third, fourth and fifth TERMINATOR movies.

See how the plot plays out when TERMINATOR: DARK FATE reaches AMC theatres near you on November 1.
