IMAX VR at AMC - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IMAX VR is a Virtual Reality experience in a location-based setting inside AMC Kips Bay 15 in New York. Virtual Reality is defined as the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.
Experience prices vary between $7 and $15 depending on the length and complexity of the experience you choose.
You can purchase your experience at the AMC Kips Bay 15 at the box office during regular hours of operation. The box office opens 30 minutes prior to first showtime starting. Experiences can also be purchased in advance here. Single-player experiences have 1 “seat” per showtime. Multiplayer experiences have multiple “seats” per showtime (the number can vary by experience). Multiple tickets can be purchased in a row at the box office only.
The IMAX VR experience features a unique combination of premium technology and world-class content that lets users see, feel, move and play in new worlds in a powerfully immersive and realistic way. Using VR headset technology, 360-degree sound and sophisticated room tracking, players will be instantly transported into new virtual worlds that are more realistic than anything imaginable.
Blindness. In addition, pregnant women, people with vertigo, motion sickness, heart problems or those who are prone to seizures are directed to proceed with caution.
It depends on the experience selected. Some games and experiences are single-user, while others can accommodate multiple users (multiplayer). Please read the experience description for more details.
If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must complete a waiver on your behalf. Children aged 7 to 12 years also require the accompaniment of a parent or guardian prior to participating in an IMAX VR experience. No children under the age of 7 are permitted to participate in an IMAX VR experience.
All participants must sign a waiver to participate in the IMAX VR experience at an AMC Theatre. The waiver ensures the safety of all parties.
IMAX has combined advanced VR headset technology with sophisticated motion-tracking and computing for immersion and image resolution. IMAX VR leverages two industry-leading VR headsets –the HTC Vive and Star VR– and features unique haptic feedback from a variety of control devices, adding a deeper layer of realism.
Headsets, earphones and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after every use. Every pod attendant is trained on the cleaning processes and procedures.
The pods are approximately 10’ x 10’
Most standard prescription lenses will fit in the headset. If your frames are very large, they will not fit inside the headset. Depending on which headset, crew members can adjust the focal length of the lenses.
Tell your attendant immediately and they can help to remove your headset and headphones. Closing your eyes, sitting down or calm breathing can also help.
A virtual blue wall will appear in your display to help prevent you from walking into walls. AMC recommends wearing comfortable clothes and to avoid wearing shoes with heels.
Consult your doctor before using the product if you have serious pre-existing medical conditions, psychiatric conditions, conditions that affect your ability to safely perform physical activities, or are pregnant or elderly. Do not use the product if you are sick, fatigued or are under the influence of intoxicants.
