James Franco Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Kin’ to Be Distributed by Lionsgate

Lionsgate emerged victorious in an auction at the Toronto International Film Festival and will finance and distribute “Kin,” a sci-fi thriller starring Jack Reynor,James Franco, Zoe Kravitz and Dennis Quaid.

Jonathan and Josh Baker will direct the film, which is based on their short “Bag Man.” Daniel Casey wrote the story about an ex-con (Reynor) and his adopted brother who are forced on the run while being chased by a vengeful criminal (Franco). Quaid will play their father, and Kravitz is cast as a fellow traveler they meet along the way.

Katie Holmes’ Directorial Debut ‘All We Had’ Acquired by Gravitas Ventures

Gravitas Ventures has acquired the North American rights to Katie Holmes‘ directorial debut, “All We Had,” which premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Holmes directed the movie, which is based on Annie Weatherwax’s 2014 novel of the same name. Holmes also stars in the film, alongside Stefania Owen, Luke Wilson, Richard Kind, Mark Consuelos, Judy Greer and Eve Lindley.

The film follows 15-year-old Ruthie Carmichael (Owen), who makes the best out of her mother’s (Holmes) bad luck. The two go from escaping from an abusive boyfriend to living out of their car and being flat out broke.

Kino Lorber Acquires Oren Shai’s Thriller ‘The Fronteir’

Kino Lorber has acquired all the North American rights to Oren Shai’s noir thriller, “The Fronteir,” Rocking Films and Dana Lustig Productions announced Friday.

The film is about a female drifter who discovers a violent gang of thieves at a desert motel and plans to escape using their cash. 

The film stars Jocelin Donahue, Kelly Lynch, Jim Beaver, Izabella Miko, Jamie Harris, AJ Bowen and Liam Aiken. 

Bleecker Street Teams With Amazon for Charlie Hunnam’s ‘Lost City of Z’

Bleecker Street will now team up with Amazon Studios to release Charlie Hunnam’s “Lost City of Z” theatrically. 

A week ago, Amazon picked up the North American rights to the movie, directed by James Gray. The film has a planned release in the spring of 2017.

“Lost City of Z” stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller, and is produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B.
