Universal To Make A 3D Animated Version Of 'The Cat In The Hat'

By AMC March 28, 2012

Every once in awhile a studio deals with a particular project that ends up being a hit and miss. Back in 2003, that monstrous hit and miss for Universal Pictures was the live-action version of the popular Dr. Seuss children's book "The Cat in the Hat."

Given the recent success of the animated feature "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," Universal is thinking about stepping in the batter's box and giving it another try with "The Cat in the Hat," this time as a CGI animated film that will be shown in 3D. Writing the script is Rob Lieber ("Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day") with Chris Melendandri executive producing the picture under Illumination Entertainment.

"Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" is still out in AMC Theatres nationwide.
