This is kind of a shock – Gary Ross, who directed the enormously successful film adaptation of “The Hunger Games,” won't be returning to direct the sequel “Catching Fire.”
Lionsgate and Fox worked out scheduling issues for Jennifer Lawrence so she could shoot “Catching Fire” in the fall for Lionsgate and the “X-Men: First Class” sequel for Fox in January. Now all Lionsgate needs is a director to replace Ross, who reportedly didn't turn down the sequel because of money, but because he doesn't like repeating his projects.
Lionsgate is now scrambling to find a replacement director, and I'm sure they'll have someone soon. Catching Fire is scheduled to open in AMC Theatres on November 22nd, 2013.
