In addition to its meteoric worldwide box office rise “The Avengers” made history as the first film to cross the $100 million mark in its second weekend domestically taking in an astounding $103.2 million.

The film has grossed an estimated $373.2 million in North America and $628.9 million overseas bringing the worldwide total to $1,002.1 million in just 19 days.

“The Avengers” is now at #11 in all time worldwide box office sales and may continue to climb.

"We're obviously thrilled with the global success of 'The Avengers,'" Disney’s Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger said. "It's a fantastic movie and an extraordinary franchise that will continue with more great stories and compelling characters for years to come."

The sequel to Joss Whedon’s epic ensemble film is already in development. We can also look forward to second additions to the “Captain America” and “Thor” franchise and a third instillation of “Iron Man.” The question now becomes, can Disney/Marvel match the standard they have set with “The Avengers”?

We believe they can.

Tim Burton’s latest collaboration with Johnny Depp, “Dark Shadows,” followed “The Avengers” this weekend earning $28.2 domestically and $36.7 million overseas for a worldwide total of $65.5 million.

The comedy “Think Like a Man” continued to hold strong coming in third place with $6.3 million, bringing the total for the film to $81.9 million. Fourth and fifth place were rounded out with Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games” which added $4.4 million taking the worldwide gross to $623.9 million and “The Lucky One” which brought in an additional $4.1 million taking it to $53.7 million overall.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to watch “The Avengers” box office trajectory!

I see one that's great enough to stand on his own in a flick and I see two generic Super Heroes below him played by descent actors that will suck of no fault of their own. DC Entertainment and Zack piss off Snyder have destroyed any chance of a good Superman flick. It's generic and badly delivered to screen. What a tragedy to finally get to see the big 3 on screen after all these years only to watch them in piss poor dark generic looking outfits and rewritten backgrounds. FAILURE! DC Entertainment needs to pull their heads out of their asses and give us something good besides Dark Knight and Batman. To my point GO MARVEL!!!!!! May we all be laughing at DC Comics in the end for playing this awful prank on the true fans.

Marvel has nothing to worry about. DC Entertainment has already killed Superman in this so called "Man of Steel" series of movies. Does anyone recall how the first one sucked? That movie in no way other then title had the tone of Superman. DC has shot themselves in the foot far before the release date against Marvel that knows how to build on charactors, respect them, and the fans. Before all this bull crap with revamping I was 100% behind DC Comics. They have proved one bad film over another that Batman is the only one in the JLA they can get right. This knockoff Superman is and was terrible! Wonder Woman will be just as bad or worse being that DC Comics likes to screw around with her origin and costume the most out of any DC charactor since creation. They simply just don't know what the heck they are doing or how to stay true to the roots of these heroes who have endured for 70 plus years. MOS2 may make it at the box office but mark my words it will not in any way be because it's a great flick. Just the hopefuls having to justify to themselves right and wrongs of the contents. It will suck! Line up for Captain America 3 and catch this flick in the red box.
