One of the movies currently in development that has a lot of film fans extremely excited is the new Quentin Tarantino film "Django Unchained". The project has an incredible cast lined up with names very familiar to the world of Tarantino. Folks like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, M.C. Gainey, Don Johnson, Anthony LaPaglia, James Remar, RZA, Laura Cayouette and Tom Wopat will populate the gritty western.
However, other significant names at one point were also suppoed to appear in the film. Early in the process Kevin Costner was attached to star as one of the antagonists Ace Woody before he dropped out. Then, Joseph Gordon-Levitt left to focus on directing his first feature. Costner was replaced by Tarantino veteran and crowd favorite Kurt Russel but it's now being reported that Russel has also dropped out of the project along with Sacha Baron Cohen who explained his departure as a result of his busy schedule promoting his upcoming film THE DICTATOR.
Cohen's role was said to be a small one and thus doesn't present much of a problem to production. The largest set back is clearly the loss of Russell, who as we mentioned is not only a terrific actor but also a fan favorite that many were anxious to see in a Tarantino film again since his wonderful performance as Stuntman Mike in "Death Proof".
Still, even with these significant departures the cast for "Django Unchained" is an impressive one.
"Django Unchained" is set to be released in AMC Theatres everywhere Christmas Day December 25th of this year.
