The first trailer for director Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic “The Great Gatsby" has become available. The contemporary music against the period setting is likely indicative of the tone Luhrmann is setting for the piece.
In the film Leonardo DiCaprio plays the wealthy and mysterious titular character against Carey Mulligan as his married love interest, Daisy Buchanan. Tobey Maguire steps in as the novel’s narrator Nick Carraway and Joel Edgerton takes on the role of Daisy’s husband Tom Buchanan.
The 3D film will likely have all of the essential markers of a Luhrmann offering: stunning visuals, an epic tale of love found and lost and anachronistic music running as a thematic undercurrent.
Take a look at the trailer and brief synopsis below:
Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.
“The Great Gatsby" opens in AMC Theatres on December 25th.
