Producer Oren Peli is the man behind the phenomenally successful “Paranormal Activity” franchise, “Insidious” and a wealth of additional horror treats. His next film, “Chernobyl Diaries” opens in AMC theatres this weekend.
Peli wrote and produced the film which is set in the city of Prypiat that once housed the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, the horror-thriller follows a group of friends who, while vacationing in Europe, find themselves stranded in the abandoned city only to discover that they are not alone.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Peli recently to talk about what inspired the original idea for the film, his “don’t go into the basement” moment as a horror writer and the secret to the creation of big scares.
Bradley Parker directs a cast that includes Jonathan Sadowski, Jesse Mccartney and Olivia Dudley.
“Chernobyl Diaries” opens in AMC theatres this Friday May 25, 2012.
