It’s been nearly four years since we’ve seen Will Smith in theatres and a decade since we’ve seen the “Men in Black” take on the alien species that populate the hidden recesses of our world. At the end of this month we will have the chance to do both when “Men in Black 3” opens on AMC screens.
The franchise became known for several key elements: the innovative aliens from artist Rick Baker, the iconic black suits from costume designer Mary E. Vogt and of course, the chemistry between Tommy Lee Jones’s Agent K and Will Smith’s Agent J.
What is remarkable is that Josh Brolin has been able to step into the third instillation in the series as the young Agent K and seamlessly mirror the previously established character and relationship while still bringing something fresh and new to the world.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Smith, Brolin and director Barry Sonnenfeldat the Los Angeles press event for the film to the chemistry between the leads, the methods Brolin utilized to slip into Agent K’s skin and letting the idea for this film marinate over a period of years until it was ready to go into production.
Take a look at the video interviews and synopsis for the film below:
In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back...in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.
Barry Sonnenfeld directs a cast that includes Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
“Men in Black 3” opens in AMC IMAX 3D, 3D and 2D theatres on May 25th.
