Director Kevin Tancharoen (“Fame”) made a bold decision in 2010 when he moved forward with the production of his short film “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” in the hopes that Warner Bros. would take notice and consider him as a helmer for a franchise reboot.
Tancharoen’s risk payed off when the studio backed a web series that would introduce audiences to the director’s vision for the universe.
It has since been reported that Tancharoen is set to helm the cinematic remake from a script by Oren Uziel.
Bloody Disguising has been able to suss out a few details on the story which (like the video game it is based on) tracks the globe's best fighters as they travel to a brutal tournament which will “determine the fate of the world.”
The horror site reports that the film will specifically follow “a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is.”
We will keep you updated as details on the project emerge. In the interim take a look at Tancharoen’s original shot film below.
