DreamWorks Animation’s new family film “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” (which continues to follow the trials and tribulations of a group of eccentric, escaped zoo animals) took top place at this weekend’s box office with a $60.4 million domestic gross according to studio estimates.
Ridley Scott’s return to science fiction “Prometheus” earned an estimated $50 million domestically this weekend and $39.2 million internationally brining the international total to $91.5 million and worldwide to roughly $140 million.
Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” starring Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth came in third after its first place open with $23 million brining its domestic gross to $95.8 million and worldwide total to $182 million.
Will Smith’s “Men In Black 3” took fourth place with $13.5 million brining its worldwide total to $488 million. Finally the year’s biggest blockbuster (thus far) “The Avengers” rounded out the top five with $10.8 million bringing the domestic gross to $572 million and global to roughly $1.4 billion.
