Admittedly, I'm a little out of my element here.
I've been to a few hip hop dance classes at the gym and I do own one Jay-Z CD thanks to my dear friend Kevin, but that's the extent of my knowledge about rap and the hip hop subculture.
From an outsider's prospective, there is so much to be inspired by when it comes to hip hop. There's something about the music that makes you want to move, something about the energy that makes you feel free to express yourself and something about the culture that just makes you want to have a good time! And if I can glean anything from our interview with Ice-T, that's part of the story he's trying to tell with his movie Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap.
Now to the good stuff.
Thanks to the generosity of Ice-T, we are giving away a poster from the movie signed by the director and rap legend himself! Check it out!
If you frequent this blog a lot, you already know the drill. But for you newcomers (welcome!), fill out the form below by 11:59 PM (CST) on June 27. One winner will be selected at random on June 28. Good luck!
Synopsis: Ice-T takes us on an intimate journey into the heart and soul of hip-hop with the legends of rap music. This performance documentary goes beyond the stardom and the bling, to explore what goes on inside the minds, and erupts from the lips, of the grandmasters of rap. Recognized as the godfather of gangsta rap, Ice-T is granted unparalleled access to the personal lives of the masters of this artform that he credits for saving his life. Interspersed with the performer's insightful, touching, and often funny revelations are classic raps, freestyle rhymes, and never before heard a cappellas straight from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a better understanding of, and a tribute to, an original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.
Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap opens in select AMC Theatres on June 15.
If it's not playing near you this week, keep an eye on the movie page as the movie will continue to expand in the weeks to come!
