Casting on director Francis Lawrence's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" continues to move forward.
We have already brought you the news that Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to play Game Master Plutarch Heavensbee in the film and that Jena Malone will play Johanna Mason. Today it is being reported that Tony Award-winning actress Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress in the adaptation of the second in author Suzanne Collins' wildly popular Y.A. trilogy.
Many may remember Plummer from her role as "Honey Bunny" in Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp fiction".
Her character in "Catching Fire", Wiress, is a woman who has been so deeply traumatized by her participation in the arena in her youth that her fellow tributes refere to her simply as "Nuts". She does however play a signifigant role in the second round of games that young lovers Katniss and Peeta are forced to participate in.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour' of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.
Francis Lawrence directs a cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amanda Plummer.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" opens in AMC 2D and IMAX screens on November 22nd.
