Director Gary Ross surprised a great many fans when he departed from the sequel to his blockbuster adaptation of the YA futuristic dystopian novel “The Hunger Games”.

It is now being reported that he is officially on board to helm an adaptation of a far more traditional children’s tale, “Peter and the Starcatchers” for Walt Disney Pictures.

Well, traditional in the sense that it does not feature a group of teenagers fighting to the death in an arena created by their government.

The Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson book has already been adapted into a Broadway hit which generated 9 Tony nominations. It imagines the back-story of the archetypal representation of childhood itself: Peter Pan.

We will keep you updated as details emerge.
