Kevin Costner has officially joined the cast of director Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming “Jack Ryan” prequel starring Chris Pine. Costner will portray Ryan’s mentor, CIA Agent William Harper, in the adaptation inspired by the popular Tom Clancy series of novels.

Costner’s character will also appear in the planned spin-off “Without Remorse” based on Clancy’s 1993 thriller.

The “Without Remorse” plot is described as follows:

John Kelly... is still getting over the accidental death of his wife six months before, when he befriends a young woman with a decidedly checkered past. When that past reaches out for her in a particularly horrifying fashion, he vows revenge and, assembling all of his old skills, sets out to track down the men responsible, before it can happen again.

At the same time, the Pentagon is readying an operation to rescue a key group of prisoners in a North Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camp. One man, they find, knows the terrain around the camp better than anyone else they have: a certain former Navy SEAL named John Kelly.

Kelly has his own mission. The Pentagon wants him for theirs. Attempting to juggle the two, Kelly (now code-named Mr. Clark) finds himself confronted by a vast array of enemies, both at home and abroad -- men so skillful that the slightest misstep means death. And the fate of dozens of people, including Kelly himself, rests on his making sure that misstep never happens.

Men aren't born dangerous. They grow dangerous. And the most dangerous of all, Kelly learns, are the ones you least expect...

Tom Hardy is reportedly being looked at to play Kelly with Christopher McQuarrie tentatively attached to direct from a script he is currently penning.

We will keep you updated as details emerge.

I see one that's great enough to stand on his own in a flick and I see two generic Super Heroes below him played by descent actors that will suck of no fault of their own. DC Entertainment and Zack piss off Snyder have destroyed any chance of a good Superman flick. It's generic and badly delivered to screen. What a tragedy to finally get to see the big 3 on screen after all these years only to watch them in piss poor dark generic looking outfits and rewritten backgrounds. FAILURE! DC Entertainment needs to pull their heads out of their asses and give us something good besides Dark Knight and Batman. To my point GO MARVEL!!!!!! May we all be laughing at DC Comics in the end for playing this awful prank on the true fans.

Marvel has nothing to worry about. DC Entertainment has already killed Superman in this so called "Man of Steel" series of movies. Does anyone recall how the first one sucked? That movie in no way other then title had the tone of Superman. DC has shot themselves in the foot far before the release date against Marvel that knows how to build on charactors, respect them, and the fans. Before all this bull crap with revamping I was 100% behind DC Comics. They have proved one bad film over another that Batman is the only one in the JLA they can get right. This knockoff Superman is and was terrible! Wonder Woman will be just as bad or worse being that DC Comics likes to screw around with her origin and costume the most out of any DC charactor since creation. They simply just don't know what the heck they are doing or how to stay true to the roots of these heroes who have endured for 70 plus years. MOS2 may make it at the box office but mark my words it will not in any way be because it's a great flick. Just the hopefuls having to justify to themselves right and wrongs of the contents. It will suck! Line up for Captain America 3 and catch this flick in the red box.

I've got a Baby Ruth in my coat pocket somewhere... just waiting to eat it. Maybe I'll put in a blender on puree.
