A Fourth AVATAR Is Not In Production According To Jon Landau

We’ve known for the last several years that director James Cameron had plans to shoot the second and third instillments in his “Avatar” franchise back-to-back. Indeed, the prolific director is in production on the films now.

But recent comments by both Cameron and his star Sigourney Weaver lead many to speculate that a fourth film was also in development.

This past May Cameron was quoted saying that he was:

"…in the 'Avatar' business. Period. That's it. I'm making 'Avatar 2,' 'Avatar 3,' maybe 'Avatar 4.'”

Then in June, Showbiz 411 wrote an article that extrapolated on Weaver’s involvement, saying:

"Then she films 'Avatar' 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That's right: they're making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it's going to work. 'I just show up,' she said.”

Though the actress had never explicitly stated that there was a fourth film, much less that she was a part of it, many took the article to be a confirmation of Cameron’s earlier comments.

Producer Jon Landau has put an unequivocal halt to the speculation, however, via a recent interview with Courier Post, saying:

“We [are] doing two back-to-back, but not a third."

If Cameron meets Fox’s proposed deadline look for “Avatar 2” in AMC Theatres in December 2014 and “Avatar 3” the following year.

Really like the look of it! The trailer has a menacing and dark tone to it, as LEE pointed out. Hopefully this won't be another Die Hard 5 case, awesome trailer but terrible film. Godzilla looks so much like it's 60 year old predecessor. I did like the 1999 Godzilla, just because the actors were awesome and it was cool to see another take on a legendary creature, but this film looks so much darker, almost forbidden. Can't wait till the middle of May!!
