If you've ever been to Los Angeles, then you may know that one of Hollywood's most beloved and unique landmarks is the private nightclub "The Magic Castle".
The establishment is described thusly:
"The Magic Castle is the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc, a very special organization devoted to the advancement of the ancient art of magic. The purpose of The Academy is to encourage and promote public interest in the art of magic with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an art form, entertainment medium, and hobby. Beginning with a charter membership of 150, the Academy has grown into a world-renowned fraternal organization with a membership of nearly 5,000."
People are admitted to the Castle via an invitation from a member of the club. Once there, they are treated to a formal evening of dinner, drinks and, oh yes, magic in the Chateau style mansion filled with stages, elaborate larbrynth-like hallways and 1920's decor.
It is now being reported that Ted Field and his company, Radar Pictures, is developing a feature film based on the famous landmark for 20th Century Fox.
In addition, Magic Castles Inc. has signed with CAA for representation "in areas including television, film, live events, video games, digital media and merchandising," according to THR.
Here is what Milt Larsen, co-founder of the Magic Castle, had to say in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“We are excited about the future of the Magic Castle brand as represented by CAA and we look forward to the expansion of the brand through the extensive network of the individuals and companies they represent.”
There is no official word on the storyline for the narrative, but The Magic Castle is rich with possibilities. One could imagine a comedic caper (in the vein of 1985's "Clue") or a far more mysterious take on the tale.
Fan favorite Neil Patrick Harris serves as the president of the Academy of Magical Arts board of directors at The Magic Castle, but there is no indication (as yet) that he will be involved in the film's production.
We will keep you updated as details emerge.
