Universal Pictures and Focus Features have announced that Kelly Marcel has been tapped to pen the script for the highly anticipated erotic romance "Fifty Shades of Grey".

Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and author E L James will produce the adaptation of James' bestselling novel of the same name.

Marcel is best known for having written the 2011 Black List script, "Saving Mr. Banks", which is currently in production at Walt Disney Studios with John Lee Hancock directing a cast that includes Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell. She also co-created and executive produced television's "Terra Nova" for Fox.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" tells the story of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey's tempestuous relationship with college student Anastasia Steele. The novel began as erotic "Twilight" fan fiction.
