The conversations about Walt Disney Company's purchase of Lucasfilm have largely centered on the studio's plans to move forward with "Star Wars: Episode VII" with the goal of a 2015 release.
But, Lucasfilm also has the rights to another iconic cinematic franchise: "Indiana Jones."
So, does Disney plan to move forward with that franchise as well?
Not for now.
In a conference call earlier this afternoon, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said that "Indiana Jones" was "not factored into the equation" in terms of the purchase.
Paramount Pictures still has the distribution rights for the franchise, though Disney now has the production rights. All of this may change in the future, but for now, there are no official plans to move forward with a new "Indiana Jones" film.
20th Century Fox distributed the six previous "Star Wars" films, but their contract has run out leaving the pathway clear for Disney.
What do you think? Would you like to see another "Indiana Jones" film or are you content to let that franchise rest in peace?
