Following today's historic news: Disney has purchased Lucasfilm and is planning to release the next "Star Wars" film in 2015, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger participated in a conference call about the transaction.
One piece of news that emerged from the call is that Disney plans to release a new "Star Wars" movie every two years. Two more films will follow the release of "Star Wars: Episode VII" in 2015, which will fulfill George Lucas' long-term goal of creating a nine-film series arc for the franchise.
Lucasfilm already has a plan in place for the next three "Star Wars" movies. There is a "lengthy treatment" and George Lucas himself will stay on board as a consultant.
Take a look at the video below in which Lucas and Lucasfilm's president, Kathleen Kennedy, discuss the future of "Star Wars".
