ASTEROIDS Video Game Movie Gets New Writer

By AMC November 16, 2012

Video game plots being adapted into movies have been all the rage for some time now and many big stars have been attracted to the projects. The “Lara Croft” franchise starred Angelina Jolie, “Resident Evil” featured Milla Jovovich as the lead and soon the upcoming “Splinter Cell” starring Tom Hardy, will follow suit. The upcoming Universal Pictures flick based on the popular 70’s Atari video game called “Asteroids” is also joining that list and news just hit that a new writer is penning the script.

Jez Butterworth, known for writing the screenplay for “Fair Game”, which starred Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, is tackling the rewrite. The original version was written by Matt Lopez and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The film is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the man behind the "Transformers" franchise, "Stardust" and the "G.I. Joe" films.
