When Gary Ross decided not to return to direct "The Hunger Games" sequel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" some wondered if Lionsgate would tap one director for the remaining three films, or if they would instead choose a fresh helmer for each.
Well, it has been confirmed that Frances Lawrence ("I am Legend", "Constantine"), who is currently in production on "Catching Fire", will also direct "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2".
Danny Strong will pen the scripts for both part 1 and 2 of "Mockingjay" with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth all reprising their roles.
"Mockingjay" follows heroine Katniss Everdeen's journey as she leads the districts of Panem in a rebellion against the tyrannical and corrupt Capitol. As the war that will determine the fate of Panem escalates, Katniss must decipher for herself who she can trust and what needs to be done, with everything she cares for in the balance.
“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” opens in AMC Theatres on November 22, 2013.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” will open in AMC Theaters on November 21, 2014 with “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” following on November 20, 2015.
