Last year’s low budget horror film, “Insidious”, went on to become a huge success and was known as the most profitable film of 2011. The original $1.5 million budget turned $97 million gross, enabled an easy decision for FilmDistrict, Alliance Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions to announce that “Insidious Chapter 2” has been given the green light.
The same players are back this round including writer Leigh Whannel and director James Wan, leading the cast of Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, and Ty Simpkins, who will be reprising their roles. Jason Blum is also returning to produce the sequel through his company, Blumhouse Productions.
The first "Insidious" followed the couple Josh and Renai Lambert and their son Dalton, who was possessed by demons.
Production on the sequel is set to begin on January 15, 2013 in Los Angeles with a release date from FilmDistrict scheduled to hit AMC Theatres on August 30, 2013.
