Lenny Kravitz to Play Marvin Gaye in Upcoming Project

By AMC November 28, 2012

Rocker-turned-actor Lenny Kravitz has just signed on to play legendary R&B singer Marvin Gaye, in a biopic set for production next year. Kravitz recently started his acting career in films such as “Precious” and the very successful “The Hunger Games”.

Julien Temple will be directing the currently untitled film, whose credits include 1980’s music videos such as David Bowie and Duran Duran and other Rock-Biopics such as “The Sex Pistols’ The Great Rock ’N’ Roll Swindle”.

Not many details have been released about the film yet but it is said to focus on the life of Gaye behind the musician, during the 1980’s when he was battling additions and on the outs with his once blossoming career. Everyone knows how the tragic story ends; Marvin Gaye gets shot and killed by his father after a heated argument in 1984.

Gaye was a brilliant musician with unfortunately a lot of demons he had to work through. It will be interesting to see how deep into his life and his struggles Temple will go and how Lenny Kravitz will approach such large shoes to fill.
