Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister is making his directorial debut with the sci-fi drama "Transcendence". In October it was announced the Johnny Depp would star in the film and until today, we haven’t seen many updates since then.
Producer Andrew Kosove stated that, "It is true Johnny Depp’s brain is uploaded into a computer". The plot is said to center on "singularity, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence" and Depp is positioned to play a scientist named Will. Both Will and his wife Evelyn as well as a third named Max have dedicated their lives to the creation of artificial intelligence.
Ewan McGregor is said to have passed on an early draft of the film and Tom Hardy was interested but also had to decline due to scheduling conflicts. Despite rumors, both Noomi Rapace and Kate Winslet are not involved with the film at this time.
Sticking with the theme of newcomers, the script for "Transcendence" was penned by Jack Paglen and is being distributed by Warner Bros. domestically and Lionsgate internationally. We’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.
