A year ago, Jessica Chastain was just another pretty red-head seen in some films. Not many people knew who she was, and now there's hardly anyone who wouldn't recognize her. In films such as "Take Shelter" opposite Michael Shannon and her recent Kathryn Bigelow drama "Zero Dark Thirty", Chastain has done an excellent job at distinguishing herself as an actress with range and depth. Now she is is going to add a horror flick to her resume as she stars as rocker Maya in "Mama".
The film is directed by Andy Muschietti and is executive produced by Guillermo del Toro. Opposed to just slapping his name on the film like so many producers do, del Toro had a very active and passionate part in helping adapt the once 3-minute short of "Mama" into a big-screen venture. You can easily see his influence on the tone and style of the film as well as the creepy character of Mama.
