Jason Momoa has distinguished himself as an actor with both a strong physical and emotional presence on screen. Having first caught the attention of audiences by playing the warrior Khal Drogo on HBO's "Game of Thrones", he has gone on to star in "Conan the Barbarian" and "Bullet to the Head", opposite Sylvester Stallone. While his big-screen ventures have not been too successful to date, that is in no way indicative of his lacking talent, as the man can act. He isn't so harsh on the eyes, either.
His latest big-screen role may find him playing Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy". The always seemingly informed Latino review, broke the news, saying sources close to the production said the role has been offered to Momoa. While nothing has been set in stone yet, Momoa does seem like a fantastic fit for the role, given his physique and presence. He would be joining the only cast member currently locked, Chris Pratt, who will be playing Star-Lord.
Drax was originally a human named Arthur Douglas, who was killed along with the rest of his family during an attack by the villain Thanos. Arthur's spirit was then brought back to life and put in a powerful alien body, when Kranos needed a warrior to fight against the Mad Titan.
Could this be the role that Momoa needs to finally be taken seriously as a big-screen actor? I sure hope so, because I'd personally like to see a lot more of him.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" hits AMC Theatres on August 1st 2014.
