Queen fans, you're in luck. According to Queen guitarist Brian May, the "Freddie Mercury" biopic is still very much alive and is moving forward. The eccentric Sacha Baron Cohen is still attached to star. May said the following regarding the project, after a meeting with his bandmates:
"Our main agenda was the Freddie film…which, I'm happy to tell you, is on course. The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule -- filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014."
There has been no director attached to the project to date but it's now being reported that Oscar-winner Tom Hooper may sign on to helm. Hooper and Cohen have already worked together on "Les Miserables", in which Cohen played the comedic relief of the film, along with Helen Bonham Carter.
Hooper has certainly proven he knows how to incorporate music in film in a powerful way and Cohen may just have the energy needed to give the legendary Mercury the on-screen portrayal he deserves.
