Casting updates for Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" have been flowing in steadily for the last few months. Several actors from Singer's original "X-Men" films are returning, including Halle Berry (Storm), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Ian McKellen (Older Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (Older Professor X). Sadly another fan favorite character, in the form of a blue demon named Nightcrawler, did not make the cut apparently.
Despite reports from James McAvoy stating that Nightcrawler, played by the wonderful Alan Cumming, would indeed be returning, Cumming apparently has no knowledge of this.
According to the horse's mouth, "No, they haven’t [asked me to return]. Someone asked me that the other day and I said no. I know the one that’s coming up shoots this Spring, but I wouldn’t be available anyways. I don’t think they have. I was gonna meet my manager for dinner later, I was gonna ask him, but no, I’m sure they would’ve told me, had they approached."
While Nightcrawler is undoubtedly a great character, the roster was getting rather stacked, which could then result in becoming diluted on screen if Singer isn't careful. Besides the previous "X-Men" returnees, "X-Men: First Class" alumni including Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) are also returning. Everyone's favorite Imp from HBO's "Game of Thrones", Peter Dinklage, is a new addition.
