We learned last week that director Justin Lin would not be returning to helm "Fast and Furious 7". He felt the rushed 2014 Summer release would not enable him to produce his best work.
Director James Wan, known for helming "Insidious" and "Saw", is in talks to take over for the franchise. Having already received an endorsement from Lin, this pick seems like a solid decision on behalf of Universal.
After all, it's not a masterpiece work of cinema we're after here. It's the "Fast and the Furious" franchise. We want fast cars, beautiful people, funny one-liners and some over-the-top fun action, and we'll be good. It takes a certain lens to build momentum and calculated shots for horror films, which very well may translate to a solid action picture as well. But then again, maybe it won't.
