It came as no surprise that Disney was intending on moving forward with a sequel to "Alice in Wonderland". Helmed then by the always original and kooky Tim Burton, the film grossed over $1 billion at the box office.
Now news of a sequel has resurfaced again, as a director has now been eyed to helm. "The Muppets" director James Bobin is in talks direct the sequel, which is currently being operated under the working title "Into the Looking Glass". Bobin feels like a good choice here, since making "The Muppets" appeal to both the younger and older generations like he did, is no easy feat. Perhaps he can do the same for "Alice in Wonderland", likely to offer a more grounded version than Burton's.
We aren't sure if Johnny Depp or Mia Wasikowska will be returning. Now that a director is in negotiations, I imagine it will only be a matter of time before we hear news of casting.
In addition to "The Muppets", Bobin is also a co-creator on the HBO series "Flight of the Conchords". His witty and quirky style should make an interesting match for the rich and elaborate world of "Wonderland".
