Remake of Jean-Claude Van Damme's TIMECOP Still in the Works

By AMC May 24, 2013

In the theme of remaking classics, Universal is moving forward on remaking the 1994 sci-fi thriller "Timecop". The film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as a police offer responsible for regulating time travel. A corrupt politician is using time travel to better his political career and Van Damme is forced to get to the bottom of the intricate web in order to stop him.

The film "Looper" starring Bruce WIllis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt relied on a similar theme and subject matter. That was one of the best sci-fi films that has come out in recent times and while I'm not generally a fan or remakes, I do think a modern take on "Timecop" could also be interesting.

The original "Timecop" film released a straight-to-DVD sequel and also jumpstarted a TV series in 1997 that wasn't on the air very long. The new project is said to be a remaining of the same premise, most likely in the vein of the recent remake "Total Recall". This project has been in the works since 2010 however, so we'll see how this one unfolds in the end.
