After the huge success of "Skyfall", lead by the wonderful Sam Mendes as the helm, Sony and MGM were eager to get the next picture in motion. After Mendes reportedly turned down the chance to direct "Bond 24", the next film in the franchise, the studio is now willing to wait for his previous stage commitment to finish, in order to bring him back. While nothing has been confirmed on this front, it does seem likely that he will return since they are being so flexible and persistent.
With this news, come the more interesting set. Actress Penelope Cruz is in talks to become the next Bond girl. At the age of 40, she will be the oldest Bond girl in the franchise, taking the reigns over for Honor Blackman, who was 39 when she portrayed Pussy Galore in "Goldfinger".
Apparently the producers have had their eye on Penelope for some time and now, it looks like they may actually lock down their lady. A source close to the production stated, "The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now."
Unless further contracts are made, "Bond 24" will mark Daniel Craig's last time reprising the suave spy. Will Cruz be the last Bond girl he will appear alongside? Only time will tell how these pending pieces will fall into place, but we'll keep you posted as the story develops.
