Neill Blomkamp's follow-up to his critically acclaimed "District 9" is just a month away. "Elysium" looks like another sci-fi gem with strong social commentators, to add to his resume. The film stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, and everything we've seen for it continues to build our interest.
With the August release date nearing, news of his next project "Chappie" has surfaced. We previously learned that Sharlto Copley, who has been in both of Blomkamp's films to date, was starring in the film as a robot. Now it's being reported that Dev Patel from "Slumdog Millionaire" fame, is in talks to join the project. Patel can also currently be seen on HBO's hit Aaron Sorkin show "The Newsroom", starring Jeff Daniels.
"Chappie" is an adaptation of Blomkamp’s own short film "Tetra Vaal," which also takes place in the slums. "It’s like a fundamentally more simple story, a comedy, a heartfelt story, in a science fiction setting," said Blomkamp. "And it’s fu*king hilarious, it’s a really cool film. I can say that with confidence… It’s a smaller film, a more esoteric one."
Do you think Patel is a good addition to "Chappie"? Let us know in the comments section below!
"Elysium" hits AMC Theatres on August 9th.
