Idris Elba as JAMES BOND? Sam Mendes Officially Back to Helm Next Picture

By AMC July 11, 2013

Bond, James Bond. The most famous international spy of them all, has been portrayed by 6 different actors during his reign, throughout the 50 years he's been on the big-screen. Rumors have been circulating that actor Idris Elba could be up for the role when Daniel Craig is done with the next film or two. In a recent interview, Elba said the following:

"It's not something that I actually hope to come to fruition. It would be lovely if it did, but it's a rumor. It's actually like the will of a nation type-thing. I'm not a champion of myself to be James Bond, but there are so many people who say, 'Hey, you'd be a great one. We'd love to see that'. That's a great feeling for me. That's such a national treasure for us in England, we love James Bond. To be considered as one of those actors who could play him is great."

Elba has slowly but surely left a lasting impression on Hollywood. Having successfully made the transition from TV, Elba has recently appeared in such films as "Prometheus", "28 Weeks Later", "Thor" and Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim", which opens in AMC Theatres everywhere tomorrow. His talent, charisma, and charm definitely illuminate him on the big-screen. Add that to his tall frame and British roots, and he seems to embody the core essentials needed to be a good Bond. I think it's high time that we have a Black super spy, and Elba seems like a more than worthy and gifted actor, who is apparently up to the challenge.

Other big Bond news emerged today, in the form of Sam Mendes officially being locked in to helm the next picture. After his success with "Skyfall", which many felt was one of the strongest films in the history of the franchise, the reaction seems to be a very positive one that he's back for another installment. Daniel Craig is also still attached to star. Many predict he'll be back for one more film after this, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
