James Cameron has always been a director ahead of his time. With such films as "Terminator", "Aliens", "Titanic", etc., his visions continue to help raise the bar for how film is brought to life. His most recent "Avatar" was no exception, once again introducing us to cutting-edge motion capture technology and extremely immersive 3D and even 4D formats.
The film grossed over $2 billion, so tickle me unsurprised that a second and third "Avatar" film are on the way. We've heard news that production for the sequel will kick-off in early 2014 for a release in 2015, and that the third film is tentatively aiming for a 2016 release. This would seem like an incredibly rushed timeline if Cameron wasn't shooting the two films back to back, which is both cost and time effective for all parities involved.
Cameron just let the world in on what his next passion project will be. Adapted from the popular comic series from Yukito Kishiro's "Battle Angel", Cameron will attempt to bring the magna and anime character to the big-screen. Based on his resume, he seems like the perfect guy to do a proper rendition of the beloved character. Cameron will be tied up for quite some time with his "Avatar" sequels, so he won't be able to begin production on "Battle Angel" until 2017.
For such a cool project, that sure seems like an eternity away. Way to tease your fans, Cameron.
